Fitness
Regular training in Martial Arts will
keep you fit. There is ample opportunity to be as fit as you want.
The School has a separate fitness room with weights and equipment
suitable for Martial Arts training. On the other hand if through
injury or for some other reason you are not up to it, you wont
be forced to do any particular exercise, but you will be encouraged
to push yourself hard.
If you are new to Martial Arts, you won't be expected to keep
up with students who have been training for some time. Even if
you are very fit, chances are some of the stretches will be taxing.
A lot of the fitness training is based around kicking and punching
to increase strength and speed. Aerobic routines are sometimes
used incorporating kicks and punches to shields in fast combinations.
Endurance training allows you to build reserves of strength so
that you can continue on, even when exhausted. A typical endurance
exercise would be to have two lines of students at the centre
of the hall facing each other. They start by doing 15 press-ups,
they then run to the other end of the hall and do 15 sit-ups.
This is continued with 14 press-ups, 14 sit-ups, until eventually they end with one sit-up.
