Self-Defence
Self-defence movements are predetermined
methods of defending yourself against attacks of any description,
be it, a grab, strangle or attack with knife or any other object.
They generally involve a combination of release or deflection
with a strike or lock counter move.
There are countless ways of overcoming
an attacker and we practice as many as time will allow. Depending
on your build and ability, some will suit you and some will not;
you take what works for you. We try to teach moves that are safe,
where you are in control, and minimize your attackers ability
to retaliate further.
For instance a simple defence against someone grabbing your wrist
would be to tighten your fist, at the same time turning
your wrist quickly towards your attackers thumb and turning and
pulling your body away from the attacker. Once the wrist has been
released counter immediately with a punch or kick.
Self-defence involves kicks and attacks which are potentially
injurious and life threatening, it has no rules and some of the
moves would only be used in a desperate situation. It should not
be confused with sparring which has rules, and allows Martial
Arts to be practised as a sport. The use of Pressure Points greatly
enhances most grabs and counter strikes.
